Poster

Film Poster

Here is the film poster that I have produced. I had to use Photoshop to produce my poster, but first I had to get a person to photo different poses to fit the film poster plan I had in mind. I want to make a serious, good looking poster which people would think that the film looks good and exciting because the poster only gives some much information away about the film. After the best shot I took, I looked online for a long road in a rural area where there's just the road. Finally after get two good images to match each other I had to edit my shot black and white and edit the curves to make some of the subjects dark spots darker making it more mysterious. finishing the photo itself i had to insert film poster information e.g. film company (universal), age rate, title and the directors credits.

Crawley Futures

 Crawley Futures

Here are my 3 Photoshopped images of photos I took of Crawley. What i learnt during this assignment was more about Photoshop and the tools to edit a photo professionally. This assignment took me overall a month to finish as the editing took he longest.
Here is my first and personal favourite image as this photo represent Crawley's future but a nature future where the world has become super Eco-friendly and have let nature grow over cities, forming waterfall, and jungles. For this image I had to use the crop tool, quick selection tool, lasso tool, rubber and the sharp tool to produce this image, the hardest bit to do was the waterfall going over the college and make it look as though the water flows over the college and the water crashing into the river lake.I also inserted a whales tail in the river lake making it look as though whales and sea life creatures live in the cities river roads.

Here I got a shot over Crawley from the top floor of college, from there i thought i could make it look as though the world had an never ending eclipse so there was no sun in the world. To do this i had to get a eclipse off from the internet, then insert it and enlarge the image to fit the sky, I didn't use a lot of tools to produce this image but I had to edit the curves and the lighting of the image to make the buildings dark but use some of the light to make it look as though people still use electricity the try and light up the world.

Finally my last image that i have produced eclipse Photoshop image, but for this I want to make it as though someone from the future took this image in another place and another angle. Here i took a picture of the college tower block and then on Photoshop made it black and white. I had to edit the curves and lighting of the image to fit the eclipse perfectly into the photo and matching the lighting to the eclipse.

Evaluation

I think overall for this assignment I do well in as I have learnt to use Photoshop more professionally from when I first started using it. I think I have improve my Photoshop skills from the first Photoshop assignment I done to this assignment. To improve my work I could have used more of the Photoshop tools to produce my last two piece of work i think that could of made to image more exciting, also I could have looked on YouTube to find out more professional way to produce some images to help me and inspirate me. In comparison to other peoples work (professionals work) I think I am not work off with the pieces I produced but could learn a lot more to get my images and future images to professional standards.

Photo Portraiture

Diane Arbus

One of Diane Arbus famous portraiture's was done on the Matthaei Family, were the mother "Gay Matthaei" hired Arbus to take a portrait of the Matthaei's. Thinking Arbus was just taking a portrait of the whole family acting happy in the family room, Arbus went on to photographing the teenage's and taking shots showing the 'true' family side of the Matthaei's, that was the teenage's being unhappy and weren't in they place because maybe they couldn't be who they wanted to be as they would of had expections because of their family line. This is why Diane Arbus was famous for doing portraits because she captured the true reflection of the subject showing he/she's true emotions instead of pulling a fake emotion to look nice in the photo.

Matthaei Family

Here is the daughter of the Matthaei family at the time, here was a typical teenage during the 1960's brought up by a rich family. Arbus captured Marcella Matthaei showing her true self, unhappy because her parents were choosing her decisions for her. This is what Arbus was good at, capturing people's true emotions in front of a camera, as everyone smiles nicely in front of a camera, but Arbus got them to show their true self by saying the camera isn't working, making the person drop their pose and revealing themselves.

Identical Twins

Identical Twins depicts two young twin sisters, Cathleen and Colleen Wade, standing side by side in matching corduroy dresses, white tights, and white headbands in their dark hair. Both stare into the camera, one slightly smiles and the other slightly frowns. The photo has been said to sum up Arbus’ vision.
The twins were seven years old when Arbus spotted them at a Christmas party for twins and triplets. The twins' father once said about the photo,'We thought it was the worst likeness of the twins we'd ever seen'.

Photoshop - Blur and Sharpen Tools

The top photo is the original image and the bottom one is the one a experimented the blur and sharp tool on Photoshop with. I first used the blur tool to blur off the background with an 85
%  strength blurriness on the mountains with the hills i decreased the blur tool to 50% and then i blurred off the front of the image but i used a 33% strength so it fits and makes the image professional. I used the sharp tool to sharpen the church in the village and used a 18% strength otherwise if it was to strong it wouldn't make the photo look professional and would be too strong for the image.

Here i have edited a photo of my choice and i chose a football match image because it is perfect to blur out players and focus on the player on the ball and the ball. I done a similar process to this with the first photo i first used the blur tool to blur out both players behind the player closest to the ball, using a 80% strength blurriness and then finally used the sharp tool to sharpen the front player a bit more using a 20% strength.

Adobe Photoshop

Here i had to edit Alan Sugar onto a pile of sugar by using Adobe Photoshop. First i had to open both images onto Photoshop. using the lasso to cut around Alan Sugar head to put onto the pile of sugar, but before i feathered his head to 5 to give it a transparent look around the head. Then moving Sugar's head onto the pile of sugar then decrease the size of the image to fit move heads on the sugar.

Hot Keys

Lasso Tool = L key
Quick Mask = Q key
Copy layer with ctrl, cmd and J
Scale layer with ctrl, cmd and T

Here i have done another photoshop edit, this time i have used a baby picture and cut out its body and used a random person and cut out his his and then put his head on the baby's body to create this image.

Robert Capa

Robert Capa, famous for decisive moment in photography and was a WAR Photographer and was in action in World War 2, Vietnam, Spanish Civil War and the Chinese Resistance to Japan. Working for 'Life' Magazine, Capa was paid to go into action, not to kill but to capture moment during the wars.

World War II

During the World War II Capa went into the most famous event in history 'D-Day Landing' and was in the boats that landed first. Capturing 106 photo's most of them were  and was left with only 11 also known as 'The Magnificent Eleven', because Life Magazine had a deadline to publish the photo's, devloping the photo's in a london caused 95 photo's being destroyed. 'The Magnificent Eleven' were truely amazing has it showed the landing of D-Day, capturing soldiers running onto the beach.

Tony Vaccaro

Tony Vaccaro was bored on December 20th 1920, in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The American solider/photographier was in action during World War II (1944-45), while going to war Vaccaro took a camera so while he was fighting he would take shots of enemy tank's been blowed up, dead soldiers ect.

Vaccaro had to go into battle and could take shots, he got his first job as a photographer for the U.S. authorities stationed at Frankfurt and then with the weekend, the sunday supplement of the U.S. Army newspaper Stars and Stripes, Until 1949, Vaccaro photographed throughout Germany and Europe, documenting post-war life.Vaccaro would get much closer into the action to get his shot's unlike Capa, as you can see between their photos on here.

Capa and Vaccaro Comparison

Both photographer's risked their life during World War II to get the shots we see today. Capa was recognised more because he worked more LIFE magazine and more people would of seen his photography work getting published, where as Vaccaro was working for a little newspaper company and fighting in the war, but I think Vaccaro's photo's will be remembered the most as his world war II images touched most peoples hearts and will be part of history as there aren't many photos of world war II

Photo Journalism - Henri Cartier Bresson

Photo Journalism is a captured moment and which communicates to the public and telling news through photography.

Henri Cartier Bresson

- Why is he famous
He captured decisive moments in life and his most famous shot was the photo in Paris, where a man is jumping into a puddle and Bresson captured it the moment as he was about to land into it. Also that shot represented Europe jumping into the unknown as the man representing Europe. Also he is the 'God Father' of decisive moment and changed the ways of photography.

- Why is his work significant in Photojournalism?
Because he captured the decisive moments in life and would get into a position where there wasn't life but then waited for life to come to him

Starting Photography at Crawley College will be a new experience to me from last years Photography lesson. Last year I studied portraits and landscape photography and ended up getting a C for it, but this year should be an exciting year. Using Photoshop to improve or add detail to the photo, but this year I still want to continue studying portrait's as it's an interesting topic to do and it can produce inspiring images. I used a canon 600d as my camera last year and i produced some great shots from it.
